The Convergent Solutions Hub (CSH) is a feature of CFAR designed to optimize the collaborative interface between Rice Social Sciences and Rice researchers based in other disciplines. Its objectives are (1) to identify convergent science funding opportunities, particularly those related to the resilience of coastal industrial communities, (2) to partner with other Rice centers and institutes, and (3) to cultivate deeper and more meaningful exchanges and partnerships between social scientists and other disciplines across campus. We envision these efforts as engaging, among others, the Doerr and Kinder Institutes, the SSPEED Center, Spatial Studies Lab, and the Rice Sustainability Institute. CSH will also seek to nurture team engagement with undergraduates through support of Rice’s Gulf Scholars Program and to engage historically marginalized communities through expanded support of Rice’s Center for Civic Leadership and the School of Social Sciences’ Gateway program. Greater community participation in climate adaptation is considered by many agencies and researchers to be critical for addressing urban adaptation gaps such as those identified by the IPCC.
